Joe Joslin has fished Toledo Bend Reservoir for over 30 years and has been a full-time licensed guide since 1998. He specializes in Largemouth bass. He guides mainly the southern 1/3 of Toledo which many feel harbors more than its share of Toledo Bend's lunker bass.

His four largest bass in 2006 included a 10.1, 10.2, 8.1 and 7.9 lbs.. His largest bass ever was an 11 pound 8 ounce beauty which was caught in 2003. For 2007 his largest bass include several 6 pounders, a 7.8 pounder, 8.2 pounds and a beautiful 10 pounds three ounce largemouth that was caught April 3rd.

These bass were all caught on south Toledo Bend Reservoir. Joe roams an area of over 60,000 acres of Toledo's 185,000 acres of water with over 1300 miles of shoreline.

In addition to guiding, Joe is a frequent tournament angler, outdoor writer for several newspapers/outdoor magazines and numerous websites. Joslin also frequently leads fishing seminars.

Joslin is based out of Indian Creek which is located on the southwest corner of Toledo Bend Lake on the Texas side.

I am a bit prejudiced when it comes to South Toledo because that is where I live and breathe, but I do think it is the best chance for a double digit bass on Toledo Bend. One reason is the healthy grass beds that are not found in any other part of the lake. Another, is its track record since the lake record 15.33 LB (caught in Six Mile Creek) plus numerous other double digit largemouth bass have come from the southern part of the lake. The lake record and a 14 pounder came out of the same area that I regularly fish....the TX, LA Island area and Six Mile Creek area.

The best grass (hydrilla) currently is on the southern 30% of Toledo. I talk about grass because I believe submerged grass beds harbor the quality of cover that lunker bass need to grow and flourish. Also, the biologists in the lake have stocked a high percentage of Florida bass on the south end because the grass cover gives these fingerlings a better chance to reach maturity.

To get away from some of the boat traffic/fishing pressure, I have focused much of my effort the past 4-5 years on submerged grass humps, main lake points, flats close to deep water and ridges that run off into deep water. While this structure does get fished , it gets a small fraction of the pressure major creek areas receive. There are times that the weather will not let you fish the main lake, but I have found that I can fish there 70% of the time.

I have fished Toledo over 30 years and feel that there has not been a better time than now to catch a double digit bass from these waters. I cannot promise you that you will catch your dream fish but I will promise to keep you on structure that has a history and a potential for lunker bass. I do feel that I know south Toledo as well as anyone and that you will get to fish some beautiful area if you choose to book with us.

Week days are better if your schedule permits because of less pressure from other anglers. Thanks for your interest in our guide service. May God bless. Joe
